Device-Side Watermarking

  1. Watermarking APIs implemented in display chain of the set-top box or SmartTV
  2. A forensic watermark containing the device’s unique identifier is embedded in all video rendered by the device
  3. Content is captured from the device and shared via a Torrent site
  4. An internet monitoring company finds the illegal copy online and sends it to NexGuard for watermark detection
  5. The watermark payload identifies the device id, which is communicated to the operator for investigation
  6. Together with the content owner, the operator takes appropriate action

  1. Content is run through the NexGuard PreProcessor, then encrypted and stored in the service CDN
  2. The consumer makes a request to stream (or download) the content
  3. The video service generates a unique manifest file for the specific user session

  5. An internet monitoring company finds the illegal copy online and sends it to NexGuard for watermark detection
  6. The watermark payload identifies the session id, which is communicated to the operator for investigation
